THURSDAY
We’ll visit Digix, one of the major incubators of the country. Here we will have presentations from Start-up Estonia and Digix Incubatees. Check out the incubators website for an overview on who they’ve already funded. Impressive, right?
We’ll have a look at the E-Estonia Showroom, where we will get to know each other as well as get a peek into the e-state of mind. E-Estonia Showroom is an executive briefing center and an innovation hub. Their focus is to introduce global policy makers, political leaders, corporate executives, investors and international media to the success story of e-Estonia.
At the moment, there are estimated 450 startups in Estonia (fingers crossed, in 2020 it will be around 1000). The Estonian startup scene is well documented, see this detailed Google document for much more info.
After a nice Networking lunch with Estonian Business Angels Network @Telliskivi we move on to a tour through Creative Center Telliskivi and visits of local heroes such as Funderbeam who describe themselves as a “primary and secondary market for early-stage startup investments.” They are going to present you promising startups that you can invest in with a little or a little more money. Their idea: Just skip the middlemen. It’s made possible by the blockchain principle we all know from crypto currency.
Since we will surely be hungry after a packed day like this, we will treat you to dinner and some networking with many interesting people around you. Enjoy the rest of the evening in Tallinn or go to bed early.
FRIDAY
We will start the day with your indivdually matched company meetings. Afterwards take some time for Mektory because there’s much to discover. Mektory is the business unit at Tallinn University of Technology. With 13.000 students, one quarter of all of the country’s students have found their home here. We’re not kidding, that’s how much technology drives this country. The business center fosters school children and launches projects that are organized and funded by public and private money. Later those who have been supported stay a part of the cycle and teach others. Witness this complex network, learn how students, teachers, companies, academic and European institutions work hand in hand.
Last stop: Tehnopol! That’s short for Tallinn Science Park. Tehnopol is a science and business campus that aims to advance technology-based entrepreneurship in Estonia, bringing scientists and entrepreneurs together and providing suitable conditions and environments for the realisation of breakthrough business ideas. Tehnopol means: business environment with more than 200 technology based companies. It’s an incubator with annually 40 companies and more impressive numbers with many digits. Martin Gorosko, the incubator manager, talks with us about how they establish relations between.
